Vertical machining centres

X travels from 820 mm to 1.8 m for plates, housings and die work. 45 mm linear guides on the Y and Z axes, C3-grade pre-tensioned ballscrews, and a four-rail base on the larger frames.

Cast Iron Structure
Beds, columns and saddles are cast in Meehanite-practice iron and aged outdoors in our own yard before machining, so the geometry has finished moving before the machine is built.

Named Configuration
Control, spindle, guideways, ballscrews and tool magazine are specified by brand and model in the contract. Nameplates are photographed before crating and travel with the machine documents.

ISO 230-2 Acceptance
Positioning accuracy and repeatability are measured with a laser interferometer over the full travel. Every machine cuts a test piece and ships with a serial-numbered report.

Hand-Scraped Guideways
Guideway faces are scraped by hand against a reference straightedge and checked with engineer’s blue. The oil-retaining pattern is what keeps a slide from sticking at low feed.
