Cylindrical grinding machines
Hydraulic table, hand feed on the wheelhead. Diameters from 5 mm to 800 mm over lengths to 6 m, with the universal frames adding internal grinding and a swivelling workhead. The MG frames are the high precision class, holding 0.001 mm roundness and Ra 0.04 μm.

CNC cylindrical grinding machines
Servo axes, in-process gauging and stepless workhead drive. The range runs from a 60 mm centre height to a 4 m frame taking 1 t, and includes a high speed frame that grinds at 80 m/s with a CBN wheel.

Where the part decides the machine rather than the other way round: composite frames that grind bore, outer circle and face in one clamping, and follow-up frames for crankshafts, camshafts and axle housings.

Bed Type Follows The Part

Flat bed for weight
A wide flat bed carries heavy, long work and damps the cut. It is the right choice for shafts, rolls and anything needing a steady rest, and it is easier to load with a crane.

Slant bed for chips and speed
Chips fall into the conveyor instead of piling on the ways, and the turret sits closer to the spindle centreline. Best for repeat production of medium parts.

Vertical for diameter
Once the part is heavier than it is long, gravity works with you rather than against you. Flanges, rings, wheels and gearbox cases belong on a table, not between centres.

Y-axis when it saves a setup
A power turret and a C-axis pay for themselves the moment the part would otherwise move to a machining centre for a keyway, a flat or a cross hole.

What diameter and length range do these grinders cover?
Cylindrical work from 5 mm to 800 mm diameter and up to 6 m between centres, across universal machines, CNC frames, and the dedicated crankshaft and camshaft grinders. Quote the finished diameters, the length and the weight — those three place the model.
Between centres or in a chuck — which way should my shafts be ground?
Between centres whenever several diameters must stay concentric to one axis: the centre holes define the datum and every diameter refers to it. Chucks and collets take over when there are no centres, or an existing bore is the reference. Inspect centre holes before precision work — damage there transfers straight into runout.
What accuracy is realistic from these machines?
The catalogued figures run to 2 µm roundness and Ra 0.2 finish on the M13 series, machine size dependent. Roundness, cylindricity and finish are separate promises — state which of the three your drawing actually controls, because they drive different features of the machine.
When does a slender shaft need a steady rest in grinding?
When length over diameter grows past roughly ten, wheel pressure starts bending the part and roundness suffers. Steadies carry the span at the right points; how many and where follows from the drawing. Send the L/D and the tolerance and the setup gets specified with the machine.
